Derek Threinen

Derek is a 20-year veteran of the giant-screen film industry. He began his career in theater operations, managing international institutional joint-ventures for SimEx. He then built and operated the Simons IMAX Theater as theater director for IMAXCorporation at Boston’s New England Aquarium before joining National Geographic’s Cinema Ventures group, where he oversaw film marketing and outreach activities. More recently, Derek served as a theater and film development consultant for several of the industry’s most prestigious museums through Smithsonian Enterprises, including the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of American History and the Montreal Science Centre. Derek leads D3D’s giant screen business as well as North American distribution for Giant Screen Films.
